about

Friends! Welcome to the second album by Invisible Things.

Please note that this album is available from New Atlantis Records on vinyl or as a digital download: newatlantisrecords.bandcamp.com/album/time-as-one-axis. (I'm posting it here to link the album to our bandcamp account, as that one is under the label only.)

New Atlantis Records is thrilled to present Time AS One Axis, the sophomore recording by the mighty Invisible Things! Comprised of veteran guitarist Mark Shippy (of the venerable U.S. Maple + Shorty) and drummer/noted ethnomusicologist Jim Sykes (Parts & Labor, Grooms, 77 Boadrum), Time AS One Axis is a colossal record of heavy, atmospheric noise rock, engineered by studio legend Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans) at B.C. Studio in Brooklyn. Here, cathartic squalls of feedback coalesce with forceful, rapturous percussion, evoking both the searing intensity of NY no-wave, and the skewed songcraft of the Skin Graft/Load Records stables in equal measure.

Shippy and Sykes first collaborated in guitarist Marnie Stern’s backing band, as they toured in support of her lauded This is It… record. Home IS the Sun, the duo’s debut for Porter Records, followed shortly thereafter. A free-wheeling set of spontaneous compositions, Shippy’s guitar and vocals were ably buffeted by Sykes’ propulsive, manic percussion, rooted in his studies of Sri Lankan percussion translated to the trap set. With Time AS One Axis, the duo have enveloped an even broader swath of sonic territory without sacrificing off-kilter intensity, balancing their angular kineticism with melody and dynamics.

Beautifully packaged in ‘invisible’ art by the legendary Ian Anderson & The Designer’s Republic (Aphex Twin, Autechre), Invisible Things is a force to be reckoned with.

Grip your copy, and make your cash sacrifice to creative rock and roll.
